FAQ / TECH TALK
WHAT IS FUNCTIONALLY WATERPROOF?
By uniquely incorporating Speaqua's full spectrum waterproofing capacity and 4GB built-in memory, they have merged convenience with functionality, to re-define the purpose and possibilities of waterproof speakers.
Bluetooth signals are unable to transmit through water ... when another “waterproof” speaker is submersed in water it automatically disconnects and stops playing music. In other words, all other waterproof Bluetooth speakers are only as good as their ability above the water. The Barnacle + memory mode function allows users to store 4GB of music (1,000 songs) directly onto the device allowing you to enjoy continuous play in and out of the water without interruption.
What does this solve?
i) No Phone ... No problem. Download your tunes and leave your phone behind
ii) Save your phone's precious battery life
iii) Say goodbye to Bluetooth signals disconnecting once submersed in water
WHAT DOES IP68 MEAN?
IP stands for ingress protection ... the IP system is a solid particle protection and water protection grading system.
The first number is solid particle protection, rated 0-6 and the second number is water protection, rated 0-8.
The Barnacle upholds the best rating of solid particle protection (6), this means the speaker is fully dust proof. If you were to place the speaker in a box of talcum powder and stir the powder around for up to 8hrs, the dust could not enter the speaker. The Barnacle also upholds the highest rating of water protection (8), making it capable of full water immersion. To be specific, a depth of 2m for up to 60 mins.
Please note: for aquatic usage, always ensure the charging port flap is secured shut and do not leave Barnacle in water longer than 60 mins
HOW TO CLEAN THE BARNACLE?
The Barnacle is a creature of the sea and it is designed to endure any aquatic adventure. Don't be afraid of some sand, mud, snow or ocean water ... the speaker is very easy to clean. Simply use fresh water to wash it off and a soft towel to wipe away dirt/dust.
WHAT IS THE BATTERY LIFE?
The battery is re-chargeable and allows for up to 5 hrs of jamming (at full volume), longer on lower volume levels
WHY IS THE SPEAKER MAKING STRANGE NOISES OR SKIPPING SONGS?
If the music starts cutting in and out, the sound drops out or the device starts to make a repetitive noise, these are indicators that the battery life is low or nearly flat. It is recommended that you allow the device to run right down until the battery is flat (and device will not turn on), then recharge the battery.
HOW DO I CHARGE THE BARNACLE?
Charging the Barnacle is easy ... use the included USB charging cord, which can be plugged into a wall outlet or your computer. If charging via wall outlet, you will need a USB AC adapter (typically used for your mobile phone) ... otherwise simply plug the USB into your computer. When the device is connected for charging, the red LED light will show and this will go out when the device is fully charged (approx. 2hrs).
WHAT IS THE BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY?
The Barnacle uses Bluetooth 2.0 which allows your device to be as far as 10m away ... it can operate at further distances dependent upon the environment and how clear the path is between the bluetooth devices.
HOW DOES THE SPEAKER PHONE WORK?
The speaker phone or built-in microphone feature of the Barnacle allows you to take hands free calls ... which is a safer way to take calls while driving and it is very useful for not missing a call while in the shower!
When receiving a phone call your music will be paused ... a voice will annunciate the the phone number of the person calling and then you press the PLAY/PAUSE button to answer and hang up the call. If you hold down the PLAY/PAUSE button for 3 seconds the call will be ignored. Once you hang up / dismiss the call, your music will resume.
WHAT TYPE OF FILES CAN THE BARNACLE PLUS STORE?
The 4GB built in memory utilises MP3 files only
HOW TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC ONTO THE DEVICE?
Begin by POWERING ON the Barnacle Plus and plugging in the 2.5mm cord (included) into the charging port of The Barnacle and the USB side into your computer. A folder will then appear named The Barnacle P:
i) Drag & Drop your music into The Barnacle P folder ... add songs in the order you want them to play
ii) To completely remove songs from the device, drag them out of the folder into your computer's trash bin and empty the bin before ejecting
iii) Disconnect by safely ejecting the USB from the computer
